Get Carter

It's almost always night and almost always raining in this remake of a 1971 movie about an enforcer who avenges the murder of his estranged brother. Jack Carter (Sylvester Stallone) returns to Seattle for his brother's funeral at a time when his relationship to his work and a woman in Las Vegas is deteriorating. Back in his hometown he pounds information from baddies, who point the finger at one another, and gets to know his teenage niece (Rachael Leigh Cook) in sweet, stylized conversations set in expressionist environments. Any mystery is beside the point. Stephen Kay directed a screenplay by David McKenna based on a novel by Ted Lewis; with Mickey Rourke, Alan Cumming, and Michael Caine, who played the lead in the '71 movie. 102 min.
