If you've ever wanted to research your family or neighborhood history but don't know where to start, you might consider attending one of the Newberry Library's genealogy and local history orientations, held the first Saturday of every month at 9:30 AM. They're led by a member of the Local and Family History reference staff, who provides an overview of the library's holdings. The next one is October 6 in the first-floor reader's lounge. No reservations necessary. --Megan Roberts
