A disaster on all counts (1976). The screenplay is stunningly banal, director Sidney J. Furie keeps the image dark and out of focus trying to cover up the impostures, and James Brolin and Jill Clayburgh play Gable and Lombard like they were trying out for a costume party. Actually, fitted out with rubber ears and a pencil mustache, Brolin does look something like Gable if you squint some. But the close-ups, with Brolin running through all of Gable's facial tics and twitches at once, are plain hilarious—an effect compounded by lines on the order of “There's nothing like a good day's fishing to make a man feel like a man.”
