Four Seasons Lodge

Andrew Jacobs's moving documentary observes a group of elderly eastern European Jews who, 25 years ago, bought a Catskills resort where they spend their summers. The observational camera and unmanipulative editing warmly convey their humanity, showing details such as one's search for a light switch, and evenings in which they play music, dance, and chat. There is also the occasional horror story: one man survived by climbing out from under a pile of corpses. They all lost their families in the Shoah, and, as one says, compensated by coming together to make their own family in a new country.
