The longest of these four videos, Albert Gapasin's Bakla & Tomboy (2003), is an appealing, lighthearted mix of talking-heads documentary and variety show, as Chicago-area gay and lesbian Filipinos sing, perform monologues, and talk about their lives here and the lack of understanding in their homeland (one woman's mom thinks going to college made her a dyke). Angela Robinson's D.E.B.S. (2003), a parody of TV action shows in which skirt-clad girls rescue one of their squad from an erotically charged captivity , made me wish all TV were like this. And Isabel Hegner's stylish and sexy Peppermills (1997) uses an exaggerated noir style to tell of a woman led into a life of crime by her pepper mill fetish—she steals them from restaurants. 88 min.
