Hiding out with the Amish seems to be a popular pastime in the movies—an easy opportunity for filmmakers to contrast the decadence and vanity of the outsiders with the thrift and humility of their hosts. In this slapstick romance, fallen tycoon Brad Sexton (Tim Allen) hasn't paid his taxes, and he and his wife (Kirstie Alley) are on the brink of divorce. With the IRS in hot pursuit, they flee Manhattan and show up incognito in a Pennsylvania farm community. It's hard not to laugh at seasoned pros Allen and Alley as the incongruous guests of the Yoder family. And it gets even easier once the setup is finally out of the way and the movie's uninspired mockery of the new rich, the old rich, and the unrich gives way to something slightly funnier—and more spiritual, if not romantic—as they begin to bond with their hosts and learn to appreciate the simple life. Written by Jana Howington and Steve Lukanic and directed by Bryan Spicer.
