When asked if bandmate Christine McVie would ever join Fleetwood Mac on tour again, Stevie Nicks told Rolling Stone in December 2012, “I would say there’s no more a chance of that happening than an asteroid hitting the earth.” Though NASA reports that asteroids hit the earth’s atmosphere almost weekly, Nicks’s hyperbole wasn’t lost on anyone, given that the soft-rock legacy of Fleetwood Mac is as synonymous with drama as it is with album sales. It’s been 16 years since the songwriter behind eight of the band’s mammoth singles—including “Over My Head,” which propelled the quintet from American pop-chart neophyte to formidable hit maker in 1976—has toured with Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and her former partner, John McVie. Given the almost Lennon-McCartney-level divide between Fleetwood Mac fans—those taken with Nicks’s unique delivery and gypsy-witch theatricality, and those who think Nicks sounds like a goat and favor McVie’s gentle alto and pop sensibility—the current tour provides a complete package to sate both ends of the spectrum (and of course those fans who love it all). Whether McVie will ever perform “Sugar Daddy” live remains to be seen. —Erin Osmon
