Re: “Principal LaRaviere for mayor?

CPS has forced the principals across the city to fire well qualified teachers in order to decrease salary costs with the way CPS has "reformed " the school budgeting process. Teachers with years of experience in the classroom, master and doctorate degrees are too expensive compared to new college graduates and Teach for America trained teachers. Teachers who speak up for their rights and the rights of their students are also the first to go list with any school administration. At each school (and I do not know the situations to which you refer at Blaine) exist disgruntled parents who really don't understand the CPS way or processes. What he is speaking about is the experience managing the school with insufficient budgets to fully fund recess, libraries, daily PE, the longer school day as a meaningful and enriching day, while being afraid that if you do speak up you're on the line facing the firing squad. But some of those conditions do not exist at Blaine, as the parents are of means to fund raise and provide these things for their children while schools have parents living paycheck to paycheck and/or on public assistance. And I did not even touch the pressure cooker of teacher evaluations, where the best teachers are often unsatisfactory teachers....

Re: “What the hell is this place? 1623 W. Estes

If the alderman does not like it - he should move to a sub-division in the suburbs where all the houses look the same and take all the ward residents opposed with him.

Re: “Mayor Emanuel's latest school plan unites the city—in opposition

But why would the Mayor care about Stanton Park and the low income people who live there? Really after all he only cares about the upper middle income people who live in the area and their need for a SES HS for their kids in 4-10 years. He doesn't care about the low income anyone in the city - only the tourists and his 1% friends and political money donors.

Re: “Mayor Rahmye (that's Rahm + Kanye) takes the stage

If Free Street gets visits from the city inspectors, it will be to kick them out of the Pulaski Park Field house where they have been in residence for about 20 years. I think those of us in the community would have a lot to say to the CPD and the mayor about that!

Re: “Three families tell us why they ditched CPS

Catholic Schools are great if you have the money, ability to take your children to school and do not have a child with special needs. Catholic schools are not all teaching 2 years ahead nor do all provide challenging curriculum. I have known parents who have sent their kids to Catholic schools where bullying runs unchecked ( how are the schools teaching christian values?), students with dyslexia are often given very little or no help. I was a bit shocked to see some terra nova scores of my son's peers in our local Catholic school. You have to be a vigilant parent, advocate for your child in each system. The only difference is the Catholic schools much like the charter school can show your child the door and do not offer special education services.

Re: “Illinois Appellate Court tells city: Cough up public records

Another waste of city taxpayer money hiding the facts and instead spending taxpayer money on a lawsuit. Rahm's mayoral run is as transparent as a brick...
