In Charles Mee's collage on the theme of romance, short scenes--showing couples in various stages of l'amour, from courtship to acrimony--are interspersed with riffs on such pertinent topics as forgiveness, faithfulness, and red meat. The characters' social stations vary--we meet a Frenchman, a trucker, two bums, a paranoid schizophrenic. But their highly literate blather doesn't. Jeffrey Chaney's production for Strange Bedfellows Theatre uses two men and two women flanked by two piles of TV monitors showing old home movies, cartoons, and Casablanca. Along with a plaintive original score composed and performed by Sean Wilson, these flickering images are a thousand times more evocative and affecting than the script's endless blah-blah-blahing. --Zac Thompson
