These six gently lyrical films are very loosely structured, juxtaposing images and sounds for reasons that aren't always apparent. Lake of the Spirits (1998) runs a cacophonous pop sound track over shots of a western Nevada lake, landscapes, and plants; there are also powerful, if weirdly discordant, close-ups of a plump swimmer. Chinatown Sketch (1998) is too loosely impressionistic to amount to much. The best and most coherently structured work is the richly toned black-and-white Los Caudales, but its subject, reflections on water, and shifting rhythms are too reminiscent of the work of Stan Brakhage, who appears briefly near the end. 62 min.
