Feet, Get Movin'!

While I found much of Anne Smith's letter regarding the sorry state of Ravenswood's commercial options thoughtful and accurate [Letters, January 19], I have to point out some troubling points. Specifically, citing Lincoln Square's amenities being eight blocks from her (too far to walk, not worth it to drive in her opinion), Smith doesn't take into account that some of us walk similar distances regularly. Come on: Chicago is blessed with both wide sidewalks and nonexistent hills--just walk it. She also, in typical city-driver fashion, completely ignores the area's vast CTA access. The area she describes is served by bus lines (Lawrence, Montrose, Lincoln, Western, Damen, Pace) and a vastly improved train (the Brown Line) yet she mentions none of that. Sorry, but that shortsightedness is expected in the suburbs and inexcusable in the city.
