The puzzling sign taped on the bathroom mirror at Stage 33--"Do not EVER use this sink for anything besides running water"--is a masterpiece of clarity and style beside Nathaniel Wright's jumbled, enervating play, performed in a cramped back room. A serial killer father, his dysthymic Jesus-freak wife, their gay hustler son, and his ghetto-fabulous alcoholic drag-queen boyfriend are thrown together for Christmas. A cranky grandmother and a slain postman resurrected as a vengeful Jesus round out the cavalcade of mismatched characters who squabble unceasingly when not having crises of faith. It's no surprise that Sandhill Theatre Company's unfortunate cast swim against the play's conflicting currents, but director Brandon Hayes does this purported comedy no favors with his funereal pacing and numerous, ponderous silences. --Justin Hayford
