Encounter Point

If Israel and Palestine ever achieve a lasting peace, it will likely be cemented by the kind of people interviewed in Ronit Avni and Julia Bacha's remarkable 2006 documentary. The film focuses on eight activists from both sides of the divide, all of whom have lost immediate family members to the conflict, as they search for ways to open up meaningful dialogue between civilians. Avni and Bacha illuminate these poignant and engaging stories without sanctimony or naivete; the subjects are shown to be every bit as complex and prickly as the issues they confront. The fine original score is by Kareem Roustom. In English and subtitled Arabic and Hebrew. 85 min.
