I first saw the movie in 1957 and I wish one could roll back the time and return to see it for the first time again. George Stevens created a piece of impressive film, right from the start where the full cast names rolled slowly on screen (as they used to do in those days), with the cattle gradually gether around the water pond, and with the Dimitry Tiomkin lively accompanying music...then with all those Texan plain outdoors shots , especially the Reata mansion, that in years became an icon by its own . About a year ago I took a trip to Marfa Texas where the out doors scenes were shot. I was very glad to see that the mansion's facade skeleton is still there and will probably stay there for ever...I reallity it looks smaller but G.S who was a camera man in his early career , knew how to give the audiance an impression of a real house, big, surrounded by a huge Texas plain.
