I agree that the problem with the film is the ending. It makes no sense that Grant's 'business partner' would just HAPPEN to be challenged to drink all that Brandy by an ENGLISHMAN in Paris??? He just HAPPENED to borrow a book which described that method of killing someone? It's just a coincidence that he leaves his Hotel in London early on the day of the murder in Paris?

Another problem is the quickness of the ending. One two three BAM and we're done.

The second issue is a simple one: Why didn't she just leave him when she became so suspicious? This is a much more interesting point, because it addresses the psychological issue of denial. Human beings are capable of extreme denial, and part of that equation in this case is "What does it say about me as a person, and my judgement, if I married a murderer?" And this is true to life. Many people remain in denial their entire lives regarding what a spouse may have done, believing them innocent despite all the evidence to the contrary.
