In Elsewhere, making its debut at the Side Project, it's October 1969 in Chicago. Monica, a lonely middle-aged widow, is stockpiling extra cash so her 17-year-old son, Adam, can avoid the draft when his number comes up. Adam is more preoccupied with fucking his new girlfriend, Dana, under the bleachers during second period, and maybe going to an antiwar rally in Lincoln Park, but only if her ex-boyfriend doesn't drive. According to a display in the lobby, the rally will turn into the infamous Days of Rage, but none of that tension—or information—comes through in Robert Tenges's script. The actors, particularly Shawna Tucker as Monica, do what they can with the material they're given, but it's not enough. —Aimee Levitt
