Re: “West Egg Cafe

This is a great breakfast & brunch spot. It's usually crowded and bustling, but the booths are roomy enough to still let you have an intelligible conversation. The menu is huge - full of creative pancakes and waffles and lots of variations on familiar egg dishes. If you don't like breakfast, stay far away.

Re: “Bricks

Bricks is a welcoming neghborhoody little venue - welcoming not because the staff greet you overenthusiastically but because they allow you to be inconspicuous. Singles come and sit at the bar and watch the game on TV, free to chat with the bartender or others or be silent - there doesn't seem to be an aggressive pickup scene. It's a dark, underground world that recalls a college hangout.
The pizzas are amazing. They come quickly and achieve a great balance of texture, with a nice, chewy crust. They're 'gourmet' (a 'small' will serve one person, carmelized onions and roasted garlic are involved, etc.) without being precious. There is nothing Californian about the experience.
With excellent veggie pizzas, it's also a great place for non-mammal-eaters like me.
