In '97, having already founded an assortment of avant-garde tap dance troupes, punk-pop bands, and experimental orchestral groups, French scenester Fred Bigot put together an electronic act involving noise washes and an 808 drum machine. Seven albums and a handful of singles and remixes later (all as Electronicat), he's one of the most prolific artists you've never heard of. Impersonating Suicide is practically a subgenre of electronica, but Bigot's version is an improvement on the original. Enlivening cold, minimalist, gravelly drone with sizzling glam and psychedelia, he creates a darkness that's as lush as it is desperate. Though he sure does love that reverb, there's a depth and warmth to his music that suggest a womb more than a guy with a synth at the end of a long hall. He's technically classified as electro, but don't write him off as a bandwagon-hopper--he was into the genre back when the rest of us fans were still shitting yellow. With Tamion 12-Inch and DJ Jordan Zawideh. Thursday, December 4, 9:30 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western; 773-276-3600.
