To the editors:

In my article on Tom Chiola (August 19), I incorrectly reported that Chiola was the first openly gay elected official in Chicago. In fact, two other openly gay candidates won elections last year. Mark Loveless was elected to the local school council of Casimir Pulaski School, and Carlos Ortiz was elected as a faculty representative of the local school council at Roberto Clemente High School. Loveless has also declared his candidacy for alderman of the 32nd Ward.
