Egon | Chicago Reader

Keith Dukavicius, one of Chicago's more accomplished indie talents, wrote, directed, and plays the title role in this mischievous costume drama about the Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele. Citing “anonymous sources,” it purports to reconstruct a six-week gap in Schiele's biography, spinning a fanciful tale in which the high-strung artist's simmering lust for his sister (Catherine Larson) propels him into a seemingly endless series of duels to defend her honor. Dukavicius takes evident delight in the elegant period details, but his high-minded historicism turns out to be a ruse; despite the somber tone, the video keeps erupting into ludicrous, often hilarious camp. 90 min.
