At the heart of Albany Park, a good way to impress those out-of-town in-laws with your knowledge of ethnic neighborhoods is to take them there. Semiramis features a variety of Lebanese specialties but best known for their chicken and lamb scharmas. The chicken schwarma wrap in Lavosh is a great bargain at nine bucks with its flavorful meat packed with lettuce, hummus, and eggplant spread. The herbed fries are a great choice for skiddish patrons and kids. The vegetarian plate is another good family choice which showcases a number of vegetarian options including the grapeleaves, falafel, hummus, baba ghannoush,etc. The olives and beet radish sticks come complimentary. A little heavy in my book but nice family ambiance.

Another brunch spot opening in Lincoln Park. No novelties here but worthwhile nonetheless. The tasso ham gravy on the grilled shrimp and creamy grits will keep any belly happy. The market quiche was substantive but better tasting the third or fourth day after- so plan ahead and bring a doggy bag. The pear pop tart with lemon thyme icing or maple and bacon doughnuts offer a nostalgic whim but as with most of the menu offerings cater more to adult tastes. Note also the robust list of libations designed to cure any night before hangovers served 8am-3pm. Busy crowd on weekends so to avoid may want to visit mid-week.

Yusho definately has great potential. This two and half month old Japanese-style tapas establishment has promise but still needs to work the kinks out. Execution was certainly not flawless as overbearing service providers bent over backwards to cover kitchen mishaps. Over time better coordination between the front and back office hopefully will eleviate such mistakes as swishing away raw oyster dishes before they were finished (u only get 2) and presenting the leek marcona almonds tapa with actual almonds on top will work itself out. In Yusho's case the six month new restaurant rule certainly applies, but if you must venture be prepared for a few mishaps while enjoying the artsy ambiance and casual setting.

Right in the heart of West Lincoln Park- Bivona gets it right by catering to both the adult and family crowd alike. Go for one of their unusual pizza combo's like the Armando: carmelized onion and pancetta or pesto, peaches and spinach, & be sure to wash it down with a Peroni on Tap. For non-pizza lovers there's the addicting toasted ravoli with zesty marinara or creamy housemade gnocchi with roasted red pepper. Service and staff bend over backwards to accomodate groups of any size. Prices are reasonable (kids eat free on sundays),atmosphere is charming, and plenty of parking- what more could you asked for?

Offers globally inspired new American cuisine. All food is prepared with freshest seasonal ingredients available using locally produced and organic products. The " chow for now" motto reflects their principal to offer healthy balance cooking for today’s healthy balanced lifestyles.

The seasonally cranberry pistachio scone was freshly baked and scrumptious, fresh squeezed oj was cool, pulpy and refreshing. The rustic quiche Lorraine delivers perfectly balanced flavors of asparagus and leeks, shallots and applewood bacon, Lorraine Swiss and gruyere cheeses. Note to self: must schedule a return visit for Sunday Brunch a sample the fluffy sweet potato hotcakes layered with mascarpone crème, roasted pecans and drizzled dulce de leche syrup, Proscuitto and rosemary potato flatbread and lemon crab and shrimp cake benedicts.

Dinner service is now offered(spread the word!) Try the Cajun spiced tilapia fish tacos, red wine roasted pork shoulder w/ jasmine rice or Grilled Shiraz glazed salmon served on a bed of sautéed herbed vegetables and cranberry almond couscou. Order a side of Asian slaw served with ginger vinaigrette and you too will be in heaven. Remember to not “scrape the plate” and instead save room for an indulgent lemon curd tart, seasonal bread pudding, or dark chocolate cake. BYOB, quaint ambiance, service is brisk and accommodating. Put It on your must do brunch list!
