To the editors:

I'm saddened by Tom Lawson and Ted Wrobleski's antidog tactics and the "Dog Wars of Lincoln Park" [Neighborhood News, July 17]. I think it's ludicrous to fight over whether people can let their dogs off leash at Trebes Park and even worse whether they can bring their dogs to the park at all. I've never been to Trebes Park, but my dog and I have suffered through confrontations with antianimal people at other parks.

I always keep him on a leash--except when I'm at the park. It's my dog's only free time to exercise and socialize with other dogs. He loves to go to the park and is well trained through classes at the Anti-Cruelty Society to heed commands when necessary. And I am also well trained to always carry bags and clean up after my dog.

There is no East Bank Club or YMCA for canines. The park is their health club; there is no alternative for city dwellers, so it's no wonder that we dog owners are so adamant about keeping the parks open to our canine friends.
