Our Review

There are several Duran shops in Vienna, and outlets in Budapest and Istanbul, but this loft-style River West space is the first and only licensed outlet in the States. Owner Tracy Miller keeps her sourcing scrupulously local, using La Fournette bread and meats from Andy's Deli in her artful European-style open-face sandwiches, many of which feature brotaufstriche, literally "bread spreads," salads and creamy schmears all made in-house. There are a number of vegetarian options, among them mozzarella, Brie, asparagus, egg salad, and Vitamin—carrot and apple salads garnished with a thin slice of apple and kiwi—as well as standards like turkey (here served with the red pepper spread ajvar), hummus with arugula, and salami garnished with hard-boiled egg. There's also drip La Colombe coffee, a large selection of loose-leaf teas, and organic juices.
