Drinks Over Dearborn gives up the ghost; new spots for craft brews and Belgian fare

This week Kyle McHugh announced that Drinks Over Dearborn (650 N. Dearborn, 312-337-9463), his boutique liquor store in River North, will close at the end of December. Cash short and unable to find a business partner, he'll be hosting a couple of "pay the rent parties" in addition to regular classes and tastings this month. "I have been asked many times already, "what next?" That is a VERY good question," McHugh wrote in a statement. "Well, in all honesty, I'm not sure."

Jeffrey Hedin, a veteran of Spring and Green Zebra who was also enlisted to help open the Bristol, has been working with the Witts Tavern group on Leopold (1450 W. Chicago, 312-733-5601), a Belgian restaurant and bar featuring seasonal and small-batch ales. It's slated to open in mid-December in the former Relax space.

Former Rock Bottom brewer Pete Crowley says his Haymarket Pub & Brewery (737 W. Randolph, 312-638-0700), which Julia Thiel reported on in April, is just a few weeks from opening, with "guest beers" prior to the release of his own around December 20.

Also opening soon is Maude's Liquor Bar (840 W. Randolph; no phone yet), a sleek warehouse space from the owner of Gilt Bar and Curio; its progress is being tracked on an equally sleek blog, maudesliquorbar.wordpress.com. Chef Jeff Pikus, a former sous chef at Alinea and Perennial, will offer a seasonal menu featuring a raw bar and lots of sausages.

The Double: An Urban Tavern is shooting for an early-December opening in the space formerly occupied by Hotti Biscotti, at Fullerton and Drake in Logan Square. What makes it so "urban"? Perhaps the roster of craft beers. You can find more of those in the neighborhood at the new Bonny's Bar (2417 N. Milwaukee, 773-486-8480), formerly the dive bar Boni's but now being run by the people behind the Boiler Room.

The Pilsen restaurant Decima Musa (1901 S. Loomis, 312-243-1556) will be closing in December after 28 years in business. And just after being awarded a Michelin star—despite the August departure of chef Christophe DavidNoMi (800 N. Michigan, 312-239-4030) has announced that it will close for four months of renovations beginning in January.
