Just in time for the season of resolutions, Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda revive their 2006 look at the sorrows of gin (and other liquid intoxicants) through the eyes of such legendarily soused writers as John Cheever, Kingsley Amis, and Charles Bukowski; lively readings of their prose are interspersed with deadpan accounts of Benjamin and Mosqueda's own experiments with thwarting the “poor sense of well-being” that accompanies a night of liver abuse. "Abstinence is not a cure," they proclaim, while offering stats that purport to show that most alcohol-related losses to the U.S. economy come from “light to moderate drinkers.” Cabbage, yeasty wheat beers, and Pedialyte (“frozen cherry-flavored sweat,” as Benjamin describes it) seem to work for the physical symptoms, but for the accompanying self-loathing, you’re on your own. –Kerry Reid
