Domino | Chicago Reader

This fictionalized biopic of model-turned-bounty hunter Domino Harvey was scheduled for release last spring but then moved to fall, enough time for its subject to expire in her bathtub with a lethal amount of painkillers in her system. I'd hate to be stuck with an epitaph like this: it's good sleazy fun for a while, jacked up with an assortment of edgy visuals, but the greenish yellow tint favored by action director Tony Scott is a good metaphor for the movie's jaundiced sensibility. The script is by Richard Kelly, writer-director of the cult classic Donnie Darko, and its last third is enough of a mess to suggest that the earlier movie's Escher-like plotting may have been a lucky accident. With Mickey Rourke, Edgar Ramirez, Lucy Liu, Christopher Walken, and Keira Knightley as the title character, sort of a blond Pam Grier. R, 120 min.
