The Detroit Grand Pubahs are big fans of the good old-fashioned booty hump--it's mentioned in almost every song on their most recent CD, Funk All Y'all (Jive Electro). "Sandwiches," the single that electro DJs played nearly incessantly last year, is the same sort of infectious, sleazy, astoundingly simple techno-funk as Cajmere's "Coffee Pot (It's Time for the Percolator)," with high-pitched perv-o-tronic lyrics: "You can be the bun / And I can be the burger, girl / I know you wanna do it....So make your thighs like butter, easy to spread / And we can make sandwiches / Out here on the dance floor." But that track and the other club hit, "One Hump or Two," are the only songs worth listening to twice--unless you're not sick of Miss Kittin's cold-French-bitch shtick, in which case you might like to revisit "After School Special" as well. The combination of mind-numbingly artless melodies, safely propulsive rhythms, and dirty lyrics already feels stale, and the efforts by two Pubahs--Mack Goudy Jr. and Andy Toth, who recently left the duo--to make things more interesting with a cast of alter egos (including a gangsta named Offbeat Killer and a proctologist called Dr. Bootygrabber) make Digital Underground's Humpty Hump act look brilliant. Saturday, August 17, 10 PM, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western; 773-276-3600.
