Detroit 9000

A modestly budgeted 1973 inner-city crime flick from director Arthur Marks, with Hari Rhodes as a black detective and the sensational Alex Rocco (looking and sounding like my idea of Elliott Gould's saner, more talented father) as the white cop taking the bulk of the flak while investigating the rip-off of a black gubernatorial candidate's fund-raising dinner. A gritty, disturbing evocation of the ambiguities of big-city police work.
