Dear Sir/Madam,

Not to quibble with Robert McClory's otherwise excellent 8/12 piece, "Women of the Cloth," but "Episcopalian" functions as a noun only. The adjectival modifier is "Episcopal." Thus, Bonnie Perry is an Episcopalian, but she serves All Saints Episcopal Church as an Episcopal priest (and a darn good one, too!). (The article is inconsistent.)

The editors reply:

Not to quibble, but the dictionaries in our office, including Webster's Third, Webster's Ninth Collegiate, the American Heritage, and the Random House Webster's College Dictionary, all recognize "Episcopalian" as both noun and adjective.
