To the editors:

Mr. Groening's "Life in Hell" comic strip in the Reader March 31st was rude and insulting to all those of Lithuanian descent. Among his so-called proverbs to live by, Mr. Groening threw in a supposedly thoughtful, supposedly Polish proverb denigrating Lithuanians. Not one of the other so-called proverbs was directed at any specific ethnic group; no other defamed a particular nationality. Had this pointed insult been directed at blacks, Jews, or women, it never would have been printed. What makes an ethnic slur against Lithuanians acceptable?
