Department of Eagles, Disappears, Alla, Poison Arrows; DJs Mister Joshua, SR-71, and Onefiftyone

When: Thu., Jan. 15, 9 p.m. 2009
Price: $15, $55 for festival pass
Department of Eagles, a side project of Grizzly Bear, has come a long way from its 2003 debut, The Whitey on the Moon UK LP (Isota), a generic but somehow still winning muddle of trip-hop and lo-fi pop. In Ear Park, the band’s latest and first for shoegazer stalwart 4AD, is soft-focus orchestral postfolk—a claustrophobic album of tiny sounds made huge, with the occasional burst of T. Rex-style slippery grandeur. The band makes a lot of sense in post-TV on the Radio/Animal Collective Brooklyn, where colossal reverb is a birthright. This show is part of the Tomorrow Never Knows festival; Disappears, Allá, and the Poison Arrows open. DJs Mister Joshua, SR-71, and Onefiftyone spin upstairs.—Jessica Hopper
