Re: “Southtown Star's Phil Kadner hangs it up

Working with Phil Kadner was one of the privileges of my career. I learned something in every conversation we had about the news and the news business. As Mr. Miner shows here, Phil's work left an indelible impact on the Chicago Southland. There are so many more stories like these under his byline. He dedicated decades of coverage and barrels of ink to the devastating inequities in the state's public school funding, too. He's been a champion for people with no voice, no advocate. As the newspaper business faltered and turned away from those people, Phil did not. The Daily Southtown has suffered many losses in the last 10-15 years. This may be the biggest. He and his wife Jeannie deserve every bit of happiness in the years without deadlines ahead.
