Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical

This camp musical by Erica Schmidt, Andrew Sherman, and Susan Schwartz is based on the infamous 1978 porno about a small-town girl willing to do whatever (and whomever) it takes to become a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. There's definite comic potential in the idea of transforming a sex film into wholesome musical comedy, but the Easy Street Players' rather pedestrian effort doesn't go far enough in the direction of smut or corn. The young performers certainly give it the old college try--which is fitting since many of them are still undergraduates--but their work often seems clumsy and unfinished. --Zac Thompson a Through 3/18: Thu-Sat 8 PM, Sun 3 PM, Athenaeum Theatre, first-floor studio, 2936 N. Southport, 312-902-1500, $20.
