When: Thursdays. Continues through July 23 2009
Price: $8-$10
Annoyance Theatre combines several varieties of poor taste to produce a truly revolting--and very funny--45-minute show. Before roasting in the electric chair, serial killer Charles Henry David Gillman gets roasted by several fifth-rate comedians and minor celebrities--among them, a humor-impaired actress, a rock star-turned-Christian funnyman and jewelry purveyor, and Wally the wacky warden. Proceeds benefit the prison gift shop, for which there's a pathetic commercial. Under Tony Mendoza's direction, the ensemble milks our culture's obsessions with the morbid details of crime and with celebrity--however spurious--for all they're worth. The resulting spectacle is both efficiently satirical and mind-numbingly dumb, if that makes sense. Have a drink and you might not hate yourself for laughing. --Laura Molzahn
