A decade ago Jack left his family's sleepy Ohio home to strike it rich on Wall Street. Now he's back, tightly wound, sporting Armani, flashing cash, and clearly running from something. His nowhere-bound sister, Lorna, and his hyperbolically Catholic mother, Barbara, are too preoccupied caring for the family's ailing patriarch to get straight answers out of him— until his estranged wife appears on the doorstep and spills. It's a promising setup, explored with gusto by director Jason Gerace's admirable cast, but the more playwright Theresa Rebeck reveals about Jack's backstory, the less plausible the play becomes—and the more her characters shrink in dimension and intelligence. Making matters worse, Rebeck's attempts to probe hot-button social issues are scattershot and superficial. —Justin Hayford
