Day of the Jackal

Terrific escapist entertainment, directed by Fred Zinnemann, and starring Edward Fox as the Jackal, a hired assassin out to murder Charles de Gaulle and collect half a million dollars, and Michel Lonsdale as the shrewd police inspector who doggedly foils the plot. It's a polished and exciting thriller, mercifully unburdened with heavy political/philosophical digressions. With Delphine Seyrig, Eric Porter, Cyril Cusack, Alan Badel, and Adrien Cayle-Legrand (1973).
