Re: “P.F. Chang's China Bistro

with superior ambiance and food, this unlikely upscale chinese chain has everything going for it- including some personality. great chinese food, atypical and interesting design and reasonable prices make this a must do for oriental food aficionados. relaxing, quiet and interesting decor. locals should ignore the convention/tourist locale and dig in to something very enjoyable.

unusual minimalist decor, somewhat overworked staff and kitchen, but subtle and quietly creative fare impresses. Sophisticated food in the genre of Trotter's, but on a smaller scale. lunch desserts were limited. suprisingly affordable for lunch. placed was packed- reservations a must.

Re: “Smith & Wollensky

This is a disappointing Chicago outpost of what is likely a good NY spot. It doesn't translate here. Decor is puzzling: is it a bistro? is it a men's club? is it a former parking lot? (it is). 1Typical men's power eating, with big cuts of beef and huge portions. Obligatory seafood platter good, but uninspired. Salmon was huge and well prepared, but sidedishes were embarrassing. Over salted creamed spinach made me yearn for the Berghoff's version. Au gratin potatoes were cold and tasteless, except for the overwhelming salt.

For a party of 8 businesspeople on an expense account on a slow night, the service was very poor. Our waiter disaapeared for over 20 minutes.
I ask, why do we need another steak house? Why do we need another transplant? Can't the former slaughterhouse to the world do it better?
