Re: “‘Go, Cubs, Go’ is a lame, deflated stab at a sports anthem

The verses are horrible. They sound like the words of underlings, whose manager has "requested" that they put together a parody tune for the office Christmas party...you know, to improve morale.

That said, I dig the chorus.

Re: “Riot Fest and shine

I hate to be that guy, but you missed RVIVR. I think they open up the day on Saturday (noon-ish?). The Beauty Between is probably one of the best punk albums of this decade. It's a perfect mixture of aggression and melody. And they kill live.

Re: “Battle Hot Chicken: The Roost vs. Leghorn

I was at Roost over the weekend, and you could get the sandwich alone for 6 bucks, and tax is included in the price....so it's more like $5.50 for a sandwich, which is a pretty good deal. I still tried the one with sides, but in the future I'd probably just go for the sandwich alone.

Re: “Chicago meter money keeps flowing to private investors

Here's another reason this just doesn't pass the smell test: Why didn't they simply adopt a proposal to re-implement Sunday meters, but at a severely reduced rate? I get why businesses want turnover, and it can suck for them when a residential parker takes a "retail spot" from Saturday evening to Monday morning. However, the mere threat of a ticket is a sufficient deterrent to get rid of this problem. We could drop the price down to 25 cents an hour. That would be enough.

Long term parkers aren't going to arrange their day around making sure the meter is paid every 2 hours; businesses get the turnover they want; us shoppers don't get gouged (one day a week) paying two bucks an hour (or $6.50 in the loop)...and the problem is solved without funnelling millions of additional dollars into the pockets of Chicago Parking Meters, Inc.

Re: “Cicchetti opens, Parson's for brunch, creole Christmas Eve, and more

Isn't Fountainhead at the corner of damen and montrose? By my count its address would be 2000 west or 4400 north, but not 4206.

Re: “A few kernels of popcorn-related wisdom

I've rediscovered the hot air popper. So fucking convenient. I think it might even be quicker than some microwaves. Just air pop, toss on some melted butter and parmsan cheese. Great snack (and sometimes meal).

Re: “It's time to knock off walk-off

I've always heard that the "walk-off" tag, regardless of whether it's a homer, single, double, etc., is used because the hit results in a gameover, and pitcher "walks off" the mound, presumably with his head hung low.
