Action, Comedy
Tina Fey and Steve Carell star as a bland suburban couple whose night on the town turns dangerous when they're mistaken for another couple who happen to have evidence incriminating a popular politician. If the end-credit outtakes are any indication, Fey and Carell improvised about 90 percent of their dialogue, which is clever enough but also weirdly disjunctive—as in a Bob Hope vehicle, the threatening situations are constantly belied by all the easy quipping. The action plotting is quick and clean, though, and there are some funny supporting turns from Mark Wahlberg as a perpetually shirtless security specialist and James Franco and Mila Kunis as the bickering young couple who hold the key to the mystery. Director Shawn Levy delivers his usual middle-of-the-road product (Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, Night at the Museum); with Ray Liotta, William Fichtner, Taraji P. Henson, and, too briefly, Mark Ruffalo and Kristen Wiig.
