Re: “The Adventures of Nervous-Boy (A Penny Dreadful)

The script, by James Comtois, is decent with some funny moments, but the direction by Jamie DesRocher and a great cast make this production work. It is a sort of satirical look at a young man living in New York and the complete and utter douchebags that surround him. Most of the cast play multiple roles and handle them all really well, particularly Scott Cupper (as the douchiest of all the douches!) and Amy Whittenberger (whose drunken bar skank had me still laughing 5 minutes after she left the stage!). They, along with stand-out performances by Leslie Frame (hilarious as a “typical” NY actress) and Neil Huff (as a pot-smoking, video game-playing demon), keep the show grounded.
