Re: “Thank you Based God

I have been wanting to know what all the hype about this guy is for quite some time, as I see him referenced on Twitter almost daily. I must say, the attitude of not caring what your music sounds like, and quantity over quality is a sad marketing strategy. And to be honest, it says a lot about the youth of today that will blindly follow with no seemingly redeeming qualities, except "swag". What it says about the music's ability to leap over traditional marketing streams is encouraging, but the state of our young peoples brains may be better off without this... claiming to offer self help without helping is something the mainstream music industry has been doing for years. And now underground music follows blindly. I guess it goes to show that some people no longer value substance, only the self-absorbed proclamation of it. Perhaps I have missed some great contributions to humanity from this man, and if so, I apologize. I am certain that there is a great person with a great message inside of everyone, and with all those fans he has a responsibility to offer something meaningful. At least that's what I think.
Lastly, please do not think this is just hating, I respect dude for doing his thing and being unique. But being an underground emcee myself I have to take issue with the lack of respect for the artform that I feel this displays. I spend a lot of time writing and really thinking about what I am saying. And also, I spend a lot of time recording and trying to understand how to positively impact the younger minds, and this just seems like a blatant disregard for an artform that is already suffering from too many people who can't rap or don't care about the message. In the words of Common "if I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hating"
