Bloggers have been turning their blogs into books and cookbooks for a decade now. Here's one turned into a play. The blogger heroine and playwright is Tonia Sina, an ambitious dance-theater major heading off to college when she's first diagnosed with chronic renal failure. To cope, she creates Kidneys & Pinups, a blog with dispatches on her medical status alongside sexy photos of herself (e.g., pole-dancing on her IV drip). It's openhanded of Sina to offer us an inside look into a medical nightmare. But in doing so she’s simply reproduced the blog format in all its solipsistic glory—there’s monologue and voice-over, with only the merest hint of dialogue despite the large ensemble cast. And while she attempts to shade characters by incorporating movement—mime, ballet, clowning, techno-club moves—the choreography is a closed loop that cycles between the needlessly provocative and the hopelessly sentimental. —Jena Cutie
