Dancing in Jaffa

In this U.S. documentary, Palestinian-born educator and ballroom dancer Pierre Dulaine goes to Jaffa to teach Israeli and Arab children to dance together, which turns out to be every bit as sappy as it sounds. Dulaine comes off as grossly opportunistic, playing the compassionate clown with the children and using the most self-aggrandizing language imaginable to explain his methods to teachers and parents. Director Hilla Medalia seems to have no qualms about letting her subject turn the movie into a self-advertisement—in fact, she endorses it with scene after scene of adorable kids saying how much they love him. In English and subtitled Arabic and Hebrew.
