Re: “Can North Lawndale win the Obama Presidential Library when the other team won't play by the rules?

IF YOU BULID IT THEY WILL COME!!! But before it is built Mr. Joravsky, UIC HAS NOT GOTTEN THE BACKING OF RESIDENTS YET. The residents of North Lawndale need the respect of having public hearings like those on the South Side...pushed by the Mayor and a COMMUNITY BENEFITS AGREEMENT SIGNED TO SAFE GUARD HOMEOWNERS FROM DISPLACEMENT, THE ASSURANCE THAT AFRICAN AMERICANS GET CONTRACTS AND LIVABLE WAGE EMPLOYMENT.
UIC needs to have an open and honest dialog with the residents of North Lawndale, incorporating what the community wants and not just what benefits UIC and what outside interests want in order to win the bid for the Obama Library. The Obamas would not want the library obtained in such a manner. They want it to symbolize President Obama, whose foundation has been about service and community.
Yes, we too on the westside of Chicago have the audacity of hope...the hope of a community rising out of the ashes of the 1968 riots like a phoenix, to welcome the world to President Obama's library and hometown.
