Douglas Post's new drama is a timely work in an election season when politicians from Barack Obama to Sam Brownback are emphasizing their religious convictions as testament to their values and leadership abilities. Its protagonist, Dixon McDaniels, is a Texas congressman suffering a midlife spiritual crisis. As an approaching hurricane threatens to destroy his home, Dixon comes under the influence of Andrea, a Christian fundamentalist who believes the world is in "the end-times." Honest acting by director Dennis Zacek's fine ensemble--including Tom Amandes as Dixon, Lindsay Gould as Andrea, and Bethanny Alexander as Dixon's agnostic environmentalist wife--is crucial to the success of the play, which could easily be undermined by histrionics as it tackles a daunting, divisive issue: the role of faith in American politics. a Through 5/13: Tue-Thu 7:30 PM, Fri 8 PM, Sat 5 and 8:30 PM, Sun 3 PM, Wed 5/9, 2 and 7:30 PM, Wed 5/2, 2 PM only, Victory Gardens Theater at the Biograph, 2433 N. Lincoln, 773-871-3000, $20-$45.
