Eliyahu Ungar-Sargon, raised an Orthodox Jew, looks at the controversy surrounding circumcision in this video documentary. Sometimes personal and striving for evenhandedness, it seems to tilt against the operation. To the strictly Orthodox, circumcision dates back to Abraham and is essential to Jews' identity and covenant with God; others emphasize the baby's pain (the operation is presented in close-up) or the loss of highly sensitive nerves. Widespread circumcision of babies is unique to the U.S., introduced in the late 19th century as a supposed cure for masturbation. 70 min.
