It's a little misleading to say that Acconci, Andre and Weiner are/were minor earthwork artists. If anything their practices dipped in and out of earthworks. Of course Vito, later began working with landscape in an architectural way. I'd say Crump interviewed these three because they were close, as fellow artists, to Heizer, Smithson and DeMaria. One could say the same for Bruce Nauman. Acconci was particularly close to Dennis Oppenheim. Oppenheim was a serious earthworks artist early on but moved into body art, and various kinds of meta-performance.
