As regards Ben Joravsky's "Caving Early" [The Works, April 15], and to those who have seen their streets grow hideously high, this bit of fiction:

"Stunning New Construction"

A colorful sign announcing a towering condominium complex of brick and block stood just inside the rusty chain-link fence. Of the several quaint two-story homes along a stretch of Paulina Street, the old Queen Anne would be the first to come down in lieu of what promised to be "A Smarter Approach to Real Estate." The sign trumpeted affordable simplex and duplex housing, the uppermost homes with splendid cathedral ceilings. And what appeared to be the artist's rendition of hedgerows flanking the new building were in fact rooftops of the remaining humble abodes.
