Playwright Bruce Norris must love quirky, difficult characters—he makes so many of them. His 2010 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, revived here by the Oak Park-based Open Door Repertory Company, is packed with complicated people. Such a world is an actor’s paradise, as director Mary Pat Sieck brings out in this rich, sometimes rough non-Equity production. Every member of her ensemble seems to be having a blast, filling Norris’s witty reply to Lorraine Hansburry's A Raisin the Sun with fascinating performances. The show contains some star turns—Terah Weddington is especially memorable as a shy community member—but the brilliance of this production lies in how well everyone works together to create a world full of dreams deferred, all of them ready explode. —Jack Helbig
