Schematic in design but nuanced in execution, this 2014 Peruvian feature is a worthy addition to the feminist-themed art cinema currently flourishing all over South America. Writer-director Enrica Pérez presents three stories, each set in a different area of Peru, about women at turning points in their lives. The first, taking place in a small jungle town, follows a 13-year-old girl as she discovers her sexuality; the second, about an upper-class housewife in Lima, centers on the heroine's fear of having children; and the third looks at an elderly woman in a mountain farming community as she reunites with her recently paroled son. Pérez considers not only female psychology but also the effects of environment on personal development, and her treatment of each is generally insightful and free of cliche. In Quecha and Spanish with subtitles.
